Last week I started a new college, Hyde Claradon Sixth Form College. Previously I went to a different college, Ashton Sixth Form College, which was on a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Management which I didn’t enjoy but decided to stay the year. Last week I started my new course which is a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT Software and Development, I am on this course because I want to become a Games Designer and this course will help me through to get that.
Last week, which was on the 6th September, I started off with Computer Systems, which we didn’t really do anything all we did was doing tests etc. The lesson after that we did Advanced Spreadsheets, where we learned how to do the ‘IF_FUNCTION’ and how to do the sums within Spreadsheets, these are the simple tools with Excel.
On Wednesday 7th September, we did Programming, on this unit we had to do some of the process of programming, what we did was, we had a robot and we had to make the robot to be programmed to make toast and butter the toast. We also did the shapes for drawing process. On this day we also did Information Systems, which we learnt about companies departments, this included doing a report on the different departments within a company.
On Thursday 8th September, we did Data Communications, which we learnt about Networking Communications, which was about how to connect other computers to one printer or hub, this is called a LAN, which is a Local Area Network. The other was a WAN, which is a Wide Area Network, the biggest WAN is the internet. We also did Website Development; all we did on this was to how to format a document properly. Then for the last lesson of the week we did Games Design, we did in this we talked about Visual Styles, how the game looks, we also talked about how the game play works out etc. Then we also talked about different genres and types of games, for example The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a RPG, which is set in a fantasy world.
We had Friday off, which was a good relaxing lie in day :)
